Dr. James Thiel is a board certified orthopedic surgeon specializing in general orthopedics and sports medicine. Dr. Thiel has an undergraduate degree in Human Physiology from Michigan State University. He went to medical school at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Thiel completed his orthopedic surgery residency training at Michigan State University College of Osteopathic Medicine.
He then completed a year of specialized training in an orthopedic sports medicine fellowship through the University of Pennsylvania and 3B Orthopaedics in Philadelphia. Following his fellowship, Dr. Thiel practiced orthopedics in Gettysburg, PA before joining Metro Orthopedics and Sports Therapy in November 2013.
While in Gettysburg, Dr. Thiel was active covering many local high school sporting events. He has contributed to the orthopedic literature and has authored a textbook chapter. Dr. Thiel has special interest in conservative and operative treatment of a wide range of athletic injuries. He is currently the team physician for the Washington Spirit of the National Women’s Soccer League.
