About Dr. Colin Mizuo
Colin Mizuo, DPM, FACFAS, is a board-certified foot and ankle surgeon at Metro Orthopedics & Sports Therapy in Potomac, Maryland.
Born on Yokota Air Base in Japan, Dr. Mizuo moved to Dallas, Texas, when he was two years old. He received a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of North Texas and earned his Doctorate from Scholl College of Podiatric Medicine in North Chicago, Illinois. Dr. Mizuo later completed a three-year residency at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, a level 1 trauma center in Washington, DC, where he served as chief resident. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Mizuo commissioned into the United States Navy.
He served three years at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, treating the active duty and civilian population with a heavy emphasis on sports medicine, trauma, arthroscopy, minimally invasive procedures, and complex forefoot and rearfoot reconstruction. He also has an extensive background in Charcot reconstruction with specialized training in diabetic limb salvage at one of the premier training facilities at Georgetown University Hospital.
Dr. Mizuo received numerous distinguished awards during his military career and performed the first Matrix Autologous Chondrocyte Implantation (MACI) procedure in the ankle at a military hospital in the United States. He also has multiple publications focused on cartilage regeneration, sports medicine, and minimally invasive bunion procedures in the high-activity demand population.
Outside of work, Dr. Mizuo enjoys outdoor activities such as hiking, golf, and flag football. He is a Marvel comic and movie fanatic. He enjoys traveling and tasting food from all over the world. Dr. Mizuo also has a cat named Baby Sasha, who goes with him on all his adventures.
