M.O.S.T. Pilates

What is Pilates?

Pilates is a method of exercise and controlled movement designed to stretch, strengthen and balance the body. Joseph H. Pilates, developed his method in the early 1900’s after 20 years of self-study and apprenticeship in yoga, gymnastics, boxing, skiing and diving. His innovative approach combines mental and physical harmony and is based on six main principles:

  1. Centering: Preparing for exercises with the contraction of the deep abdominal muscles.
  2. Control: Being in control of every aspect of each movement.
  3. Concentration: Connecting the body and the mind.
  4. Flow: Smooth, flowing movements.
  5. Breathing: Breathing fully and efficiently.
  6. Precision: Striving to produce exact movements every time.
