Joseph A. Shrout, M.D

Dr. Shrout is a board certified orthopedic surgeon who has been in practice with the U.S. Army since 1998. He holds his primary board certification in orthopedic surgery, with subspecialty board certifications in hand surgery as well as orthopedic sports medicine. His particular expertise is in the fields of sports related injuries and overuse syndromes of the hand, wrist, elbow, shoulder, and knee. Whenever possible he utilizes advanced arthroscopic techniques for many repair and reconstructive procedures, and has extensive experience in the treatment of complex fractures and soft-tissue injuries of the upper extremity. He has served as an orthopedic surgeon with the U.S. Army in several different locations throughout his career, and has been practicing in the Washington D.C. area for the past 5 years. Specific areas of interest are:

  • Knee ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair Fractures of the hand, wrist, forearm, elbow, and shoulder
  • Rotator cuff impingement and tears
  • Shoulder instability
  • Tennis and Golfer’s Elbow
  • Ligament tears of the elbow

  • Arthritis of the hand, wrist, and elbow
